Marco Polo in Renaissance

Born in 1254 in Venice, Marco Polo is today a well-known figure of pre-Renaissance travels, and for his ground breaking travels to lands never before Journeyed by Europeans. He was an Italian traveler and author, and spent the majority of his life traveling and exploring. His father Nicola and uncle Miffed, both merchants, had conducted business and trade in Constantinople (now known as Istanbul) and the Crimea. However, when Genoas merchants, rivals to the Italian Polo's, took over trade in Constantinople, Nicola and Miffed were forced to find alternative trade opportunities. Thus, in 1260, they set out to the north of the Caspian Sea and reached Babushka (which was on the caravan route to China) and remained there for 3 years. Thereafter, in 1263, Joining the Persian envoys, they made their way to visit the Mongol Emperor Kabuki Khan in Changed (near present Beijing). To arrive there, they traveled the Silk Route via Samara Sand, the Northern Tibetan desert and the Mongolia Steppes. Upon their arrival, Kabuki Khan commissioned them to return with 100 missionaries to convert his nation to Christianity in opposition to the heartening Islamic armies.Over the next 3 years the Polo brothers traveled via Babushka, Persia, Syria and Acre (near Jerusalem) to arrive back home in Venice in 1269. The return to China In 1271, at the age of 17, Marco Polo accompanied his father and uncle back to China, visiting Acre to collect a letter from the newly elected Pope Gregory X for Kabuki Khan. They also collected a flask of oil from the Holy Land and 2 Dominican monks (who were later to desert the Pools) from Gregory X to deliver to the Khan. In the hopes of revealing to India by sea, the Pools traversed Persia to the mouth of the Persian Gulf, Horror.Yet, unsuccessful at finding a suitably safe boat, they continued traveling by land in a North-Easterly direction through Persians deserts and mountains to Karakas (now Khakis), on the Chinese border. As Marco Polo was ill, they waited here for a year to rest, after which they continued Journeying up the River Ox's (now AMA Dairy). They traveled through the Hindu Cush and Pamper mountains, (home of the large horned sheep that now bear Marco Polo's name), after which they traveled along the ringer of the Take Make desert to the region of Lop Nor in Sinking Province, China. Finally they crossed, by meaner of camel caravan, the Gobi Desert to reach (3 and a half years after leaving Europe) Kabuki Khan's court in Changed in 1275. The Pools were the first Europeans to reach most of the territory they had covered, particularly the Gobi Desert and Pamper mountains. Marco Polo's experiences in the Orient Marco Polo became an agent on numerous missions to various parts of the Mongolia Empire for 17 years as a part of the Khan's diplomatic service. As part of his duties, he Journeyed through Tibet as well as along the Yanking, Yellow and upper Mekong rivers. He was probably also the first European to set foot on Burmes e soil. It is believed he visited countries as far field as Siberia to Indonesian archipelago. He also visited the Mongolia capital at Khartoum. It is also believed that Marco Polo was city governor for Yanking (now Honchos) for three years from 1282 to 1285. During all this time, Marco's father and uncle served as military advisors to the Khan.As the Khan aged, the Pools were uneasy as to the Empire's soundness. In 1292 the Polo's escorted the Mongol princess to Persia, where she was to be married to the Persian Khan. They traveled for two years, having to use a sea route as war prevented the use of the land route. With a crew of 600 and a 14-ship fleet, they sailed from Sustain (today known as Quantico) on China's coastline to Horror. On their way to Horror they Journeyed through Sumatra, the Strait of Malice, past Sir Lankan, past the Madman and Nicolai Islands, reaching the city in 1294.By this time, however, only 18 of the original crew had survived, and the Persian Khan had di ed a year earlier, leaving the Mongolia Princess to marry his son. Finally, 24 years after the commencement of their travels, the Pools returned to their hometown of Venice in 1295. By that stage they were very wealthy, as they had sewn precious gems and stones to their clothing for safekeeping. When Venice went to war with Genoa, Marco Polo was a captain in the Venetian fleet. However, he was taken prisoner by theGenomes in 1298, and during his imprisonment dictated the history of his travels to inmate Rustically of Pisa, a writer of romances. When he was released from prison in 1299, he returned to Venice where he married, had 3 daughters, and later died in 1324. He was buried next to his father in the church of Lorenz. Polo's Legacy The account of Polo's travels, first brought to light in French as Liver De Marseilles du Monde, later translated to The Travels of Marco Polo, is most probably the most influential travel book in history.Providing the reader with distinct description s and orphic detail, this account provided pre-Renaissance Europe with an influential and revolutionary knowledge of the geographical make-up, history and life of the Orient. Although known to be somewhat exaggerated with fabulous extravagances, this book became the foundation for the first correct maps of Europe and Asia. The Polo's ultimately inspired Christopher Columbus' interest in the East and spurred him on to set off on a new west-ward route to the Orient in 1492, and later spurring Vases dad Gamma to round the Cape of Good Hope in another new voyage in 1497.

Human Resource Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 7

Human Resource Management - Essay Example Organisational culture can affect the organisation either in a negative or a positive way depending on what kind of culture it develops. Positive culture not only saves the organisation from too many issues such as legal suits, it also helps in developing the organisational talent. In an organisation where there is positive organizational culture, there are efficiencies and effectiveness which are achieved by the organization in terms of the way it manages its talent. Organisations with a positive culture are also likely to be able to serve its customers in a better way and this will help the organization to be more successful. To sum it all, the reason why organisation culture affects the organisation so much is because it affects the most useful asset of an organisation, that is, the human resource. The strategic management process is a process which is geared towards giving the organisation a strategic edge against its competitors (Grà ¼nig & Kà ¼hn, 2010). This process starts by identifying the strategic goals which the organization intends to achieve. Once the organisation identifies the strategies it wants to achieve, it then narrows this down to the individual objectives (goals). These individual goals however require some resources in order to be achieved and in this case the organization must take a audit of its resource capabilities to determine which resources it has and which it lacks. At this point, the organisation refines is objectives to cater for any resource gap which may appear. After that, the plan is executed and the final results are seen. The final results are analyzed to see if that helped the organisation and the process is then repeated over and over. This helps the organization to continually become better and to gain strategic edge in the end. Both i nternal and external factors affect the process since they affect the environment and the resources available for the process. Sexual harassment issues are

Six Global Issues Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Six Global Issues - Essay Example The absolute sovereignty exemplary is not state centric but nation centric, for the real size of the state remains to be a domestic problem. The mix of public and private scopes, and between domestic and international trade, stay determined with more justice and efficiency when they get determined at national level, without interference from outside. As a dynamic model, absolute sovereignty generates stronger relationships between nations and their own peoples – whatsoever form that picks. The model terminates top and down globalization, organizational infringements of sovereignty and foreign military interventions (Romaine, 2002). For states to withstand, they must re - engross with their only true population: domestic citizens. The United States, United Kingdom, France with other European nations preach about â€Å"freedom,† but candid freedom begins, as â€Å"freedom from coercion, foreign pressure, or occupations, whether political, financial or military. Only with â€Å"freedom from† interference from foreign forces can a nation involve in â€Å"freedom to† develop independent political forms, based on political culture and local conditions (Smith, 2005). (2) Effects of transnational organized crime on state sovereignty The new situation of organized crime enables people to differentiate certain facts, which imply considerable challenges to the governance of sovereign states. However, it should be remembered that transnational organized crimes remain not colossal, but rather a diversified, compound and multidimensional phenomenon where partnership between groups is more common than confrontation. It has different displays in specific countries and stays perceived differently throughout space and time. It does not function homogeneously nor does it have a perpetual degree of impact on people, state agencies and non governmental bodies throughout the world (Albanese, 2003). The first impact of organized crime relates to sovereign ty, an old concept that continues to dominate the domain of relations between different states. States stay separated by borders, which not only apportion each state physically but also mark different legal systems, politics, cultures and levels of economic development (U.N, 2004). Eroded against this remain the criminal organizations which, as a result of their transnational and illegal nature, ignore the sovereignty of the victim states and have no reverence for borders as much as their illegal businesses. Their plans for development are not apprehensive with the idea of state jurisdiction but on the tide of trustworthy goods and people who provide earnings. If they think of state borders, this stands always in terms of either their specific markets with prospects for illegal earnings and specific criminal law systems of differing levels of risks, or the confusing of the trails of illegal activities through the international partition of work (Dougan, 2007). (3) Regulation of immi gration Migration refers to the relocation of people from one state to another legally or illegally for a long of lifetime duration. Since human beings have wandered in search of food and better living standards, they have migrated from place to place around the world. However, global migration is a relatively new development.it is only in early 20th century that the system of nation-states, visas and passports developed to regulate the movement of citizens across borders (Somerville, 2007). Global migration is the

Multinational Enterprises Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Multinational Enterprises - Essay Example "Culture has a variety of embedded layers. National culture represents only the outermost layer with organizational culture, work culture, regional culture, familial culture, and so on constituting the inner layers." Brannen, M.Y. & Salk, J.E. (1999:34) cited in Beecher & Bird. However, there are much larger issues at stake. The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations requested as early as 1972 that a group of eminent persons be set up to study the role of multinationals and their impact on development especially in developing countries, and their implications for international relations and where necessary for Governments to have access to the information in order to facilitate their sovereign decisions and maybe even international action: Anti-globalisation voices argue that Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) are not concerned with development. MNEs tend to accentuate disparities and inequalities in the absence of proper government policies and social. Further, as their products and services target high net worth individuals, their activities are not sustainable and convey limited benefits to the majority of the indigenous population: "They affect patterns of consumption and the direction of innovation; they orient technological change and investment; and they own or produce most of the basic commodities used in industry and commerce; intentionally or unintentionally, they can affect political processes of both home and host countries" - United Nations (1974:29, 30). Whilst lauding companies like Co-op and Iceland for breaking ranks and working in collaboration with Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to put resources into building social enterprises, Roddick (2001) argues that their efforts are still inadequate: "Because the most powerful bodies in the world, the World Trade Organisation, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are also the least democratic and inclusive. The result has been a major democratic deficit that threatens the delicate consent that globalization has been able to operate under, and also - as it happens - threatens what progress the NGOs have been able to make." Roddick (2001:14) In contrast, Rugman (2000:5) defines a multinational enterprise as: "a firm with production and/or distribution facilities in two or more countries." He denies the concept of a single global market and posits that the majority of business activity takes place in regional blocks, particularly Japan, North America and the European Union. Rugman gives critics of MNEs short shrift. For example, in reply to a claim that MNEs wield political power, he retorts: "These enterprises are preoccupied with survival, profitability and growth and, in general, are far too busy to deal in any meaningful way with the social, cultural, and related non-economic areas of government activity." (Rugman 2000:6) He goes on to demolish critics of the World Trade O

Prcis of journal article Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Prcis of journal article - Term Paper Example From the onset, this article is setting the tone for change as a challenging form of opposition related to achieving corporate goals so that the ready fully understands the nature of change in a dynamic organization. The authors refute the pre-existing notion that change can be classified under logical characterization perceptions and even indicate that resistance may be caused by the change agents themselves through their own actions or misguided principles in use for change practices. Change is proposed to be a reaction to the relationship between the change recipients and the agent based on the quality of the relationship dynamics between the two (or lack thereof). The authors are suggesting that when change agents automatically believe that all resistance to change objectives are negative, they miss out on opportunities to halt resistance in a more positive method. The article is challenging the notion that change is a predictable situation occurring of phenomena that is removed from the presence of the change agent, with the agent taking a role as that of a metaphorical umpire that simply dictates compliance using structured methods to combat change. Rather, the article imposes on the reader that change resistance is invariably linked to the attitudes or behavior of the change agent and cannot be separated in all instances where resistance is present. This is an interesting notion considering that most researchers define change resistance from a sort of orderly and predictable pattern of behavior, usually psychologically-based, that has defined and structured methods of combating it. Instead, this article takes a more realistic viewpoint about resistance by defining it as being ambiguous and somewhat unique to the organizational culture that resides at the business or organization. ANALYSIS RELATED TO CHANGE RESISTANCE The article describes the phenomenon of the self-fulfilling prophecy which is essentially when beliefs or attitudes about a situation or em ployee population have a direct form of bias on behavior or method in management or in reducing resistance to change. A self-fulfilling prophecy is one where an individual believes that a certain outcome is going to occur and, through their own actions, bring this consequence to reality. When someone carries these attitudes, expecting automatically to find resistance in a new change effort, resistance will likely be the outcome (Ford, et al.). There is a danger in this type of thinking as pre-set, biased, and false beliefs that resistance will absolutely be a product of change agent efforts will lead the change agent to act somewhat deceptively in the process of creating new change policies. The article indicates they might hide concepts or build irrational systems to combat change, based solely on their perceptions, thus leading to resistance through these efforts. This is an interesting point of view and it makes sense considering that such attitudes can have a direct impact on be havioral approaches. Pre-established and false notions related to resistance expectations would have a broader impact on psychology and the social dynamics associated with new change principles, and thus the notion of the self-fulfilling prophecy would seem to be supported by most psychologically-based literature on human behavior. Further, the article

Dog Day Afternoon Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Dog Day Afternoon - Essay Example As the paper highlights he was certainly assisted by the rest of the cast such as John Cazale as the saddest bank robber in the world, Sal and the possibly in one of his most unforgettable performances, the portrayal of Sonny’s â€Å"other wife† Leon by Chris Sarandon. And the many others all added to the cavalcade of this consciousness raising experience. However, the nature of Pacino’s performance and the amount of empathy he was able to invoke from the audience was the primary catalyst for their almost subconscious acceptance of an alternate view of the traditional leading man in the cinema. From this study it is clear that Dog Day Afternoon was made and released in 1975-76 during a time when countercultures and counterrevolutionaries were still on a rise from the sixties. In fact, it was probably even more acceptable now to mainstream audience who by this point had been exposed to the cold war and Fidel Castro and Hippies as well as the social reforms of civil rights movement that occurred throughout the sixties and is still occurring. This expression of a new masculinity challenges the traditional American emphasis on the hard hitting hero with a heart of gold, so to speak. Here in this film ther are certainly notions of some sexual liberation from gender stereotyping.   In a sense, most art, film, literature, etc. have a tendency to push the envelope of the cultures mind and gradually expose their audiences to a new attitude and more expansive ideas of what human being are supposed to be and what they can and should be capable of. Dog day Afternoon gives us an alternate viewpoint, a somewhat more blurry line between the criminal and the hero, the leading man and the sensitive male, so that the audience sees how it is possible to cheer for someone who may not be the cowboy with the white hat and cetrtainly not the typical hero of a tale.

Global Umbrella Branding and Marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Global Umbrella Branding and Marketing - Essay Example Centrica Plc. effectively disputes the above stated theoretical propositions on consumer resistance to umbrella brands as an outcome of corporate practices or the poor performance of other products sharing the same brand name. While it publicly engages in philanthropic activities, the corporation has a poor labour relations record, has consistently proven itself a socially irresponsible company, and has fuelled claims that it is, in essence, a monopolistic, exploitative entity. Yet, this has not resulted in the above theorised consumer resistance and, indeed, has not halted Centrica Plc's expansion or stemmed its ever-spiralling success. While it can be argued that this is partially because there are no substitutes to Centrica's products and services, it is the position of this study that the aforementioned evidences the fact that the marketing and brand management of umbrella brands have the potential to overcome the challenges posed by corporate practices. The study proposes to examine umbrella brand management within the context of a global company. In so doing, the dissertation will argue that effective marketing strategies have the potential to negate the forces which incite consumer resistance. ... The study proposes to examine umbrella brand management within the context of a global company. In so doing, the dissertation will argue that effective marketing strategies have the potential to negate the forces which incite consumer resistance. The aforementioned shall be argued and established through reference to Centrica Plc. As presented in the preceding paragraph, the importance of the topic stems from its theoretical and practical implications. While not arguing against the validity of consumer resistance theories, the research will dispute the proposition that it cannot be offset by marketing strategies. Indeed, brand management, such as which Centrica Plc has proven itself proficient at, can negate the forces which incite consumer resistance to umbrella brands. Insofar as it will focus upon the validation of the aforementioned, the study's theoretical value derives from the fact that it will highlight the potential of the marketing of umbrella brands to offset consumer resistance. Furthermore, to the extent that it will highlight how Centrica managed to do so, the study has practical value. 3 Company Background Centrica Plc was formed in 1997 in the wake of the demerger of British Gas. Over the past decade, the corporation has experienced significant growth levels, largely due to its expansion both beyond Britain and beyond the energy market. With operations in all of North America, Germany, Norway, Spain and Belgium, Centrica is a testament to effective and successful strategic global brand management. Controlling 76% of the UK's domestic energy market and sourcing and supplying energy across the world, Centrica also owns the Automobile Association (AA), Goldfish (a credit card company), and has interests in the residential phone market, to

Are there any ways Essay Example for Free

Are there any ways Essay Are there any ways in which you consider that experiences conveyed by the sonnets, by pre-20th century poets differ from those conveyed by the writers of modern sonnets? Â  Are there any similarities? Â  You must consider two pre-20th sonnets. A sonnet is a lyric poem consisting of fourteen lines with a very formal rhyme scheme, they usually express thought, mood, or feeling, and these ideas are usually resolved or summarised in the last lines of the poem. The two main forms of the sonnet are the Petrarchan, which consists of an octave, or eight-line stanza, and a sestet, a six-line stanza. The octave has two quatrains, rhyming a b b a, a b b a; the first quatrain presents theme, the second develops it. The sestet is built on two or three different rhymes, and arranged either c d e c d e, or c d c d c d, or c d e d c d; the first three lines exemplify or reflect on the theme, and the last three lines bring the whole poem to a unified close. Among great examples of the Petrarchan sonnet in the English language are Sir Philip Sidneys sonnet sequence Astriphel and Stella (1591), which established the form in the England, and was incredibly popular during the Elizabethan era. The English, or Shakespearean sonnet, exemplified by the work of Shakespeare, developed as a variation to a language less rich in rhymes than in Italian. This form differs from the Petrarchan; it divides into three quatrains, each rhymed differently, with a final, independently rhymed couplet, which makes an effective, unifying climax to the whole. The rhyme scheme is a b a b, c d c d, e f e f, g g. The two pre-20th century sonnets I have chosen are both Shakespearean sonnets Let me not to the marriage of true minds and Shall I compare thee to a summers day? I decided to chose these two Shakespearean sonnets because of the good use of imagery within both sonnets, and I thought that they where the most descriptive of those of which we analysed. I also thought Shakespeare had conveyed his feelings and emotions effectively within both the sonnets; especially Shall I compare thee to a summers day? I chose They say I should not wait about your street by Diana Hendry as my post-20th century sonnet. I found that this was the most interesting of the three post-20th century poems. Hendry uses imagery in an effective way, and the language within the sonnet resembles the games, which the women encourage her to play. Shall I compare thee to a summers day is about the beauty Shakespeare sees in a certain person, the other sonnet, Let me not to the marriage of true minds conveys the theme of true love. Whereas the post-20th century sonnet They say I should not wait about your street is about love, and the expectations other women have about feelings, which are expressed. All three sonnets have the same Shakespearean structure, and they all summarise their feelings about the chosen theme within the last two lines. They say I should not wait about your street is a poem, which is structured with the first stanza portraying the views of other women, and the second stanza revealing the view of the woman herself. Hendry uses colloquial language to convey the theme of the sonnet, this may be so that people can understand her situation, and try to relate to it. Hendry begins the sonnet with the view and opinion of another person, the first few lines express the way women are subservient towards the men; Or go to places where by chance well meet. Or hold your hand unless you as me to. These two lines demonstrate the way women try to appeal to men; acting in certain ways, or doing certain things that may make them feel uncomfortable. It also gives the impression that men have control over the relationship as the like to. Hendry portrays these two lines with the sense of weariness, suggesting she is uncomfortable and new to this way of thinking. She continuous to use this tone within the first stanza of the sonnet, referring to the way the women tell her what to do; They say I should emphasise my waist. And cultivate the arts that make men thirst: These lines demonstrate the things women do to tease men, trying to get attention from them, and this also suggests that the main aim of the women is to get a husband, relating back to the pre-20th century view that women had. The last two lines of the first stanza explain in more detail the way that women play games to encourage men to have feelings for them, but encourage her not to show any feelings for the men. The games that the women play demonstrate a childish approach to an adult relationship; Should learn to waken lust and yet stay chaste And should never say I love you first In some ways the final line suggests that the women are just trying to protect her from a disappointment. But I would come to you clear-eyed and plain My treasures in a kerchief wrapped The abrupt change of the tone is heard in the first word, the tone is more certain and definite, as well as straight forward and clear, this reflects what is expressed in the first line, she is love, and will not play games, but will tell the person how she feels in a clear and simple way. This line also suggests she will come as herself with no make-up or masks to hide her. The treasures she brings are not important to others, but are to her; this displays her innocent, pure nature, but also demonstrates a childish aspect of her, such as a weakness. Id give the first primrose, a daisy chain, A lucky stone, my heart for your tattoo. These two lines display her lack of maturity and innocence further. The first primrose is a reflection of spring, and the feelings of her first love like the first primrose of spring. She expresses her love further when she declares that she would give up her heart for his love. The childish items that she would trade for his love are insignificant to other people, but have a lot of sentimental value to her. And when, in time, they say we told you so, My truth Ill have and they their status quo. This final couplet expresses how she feels about the love the man has for her, that he does not feel the same way she does, this also displays how insecure their relationship is. This demonstrates her mature aspect, and is sure she will know the truth about her feelings. The women will tell her she made a mistake, and that they were right, and know that their approaches to relationships are correct. The woman will have learnt from her mistake, and not let it happen again. Shakespeares sonnet; Shall I compare thee to a summers day? is about the beauty of a love; Shakespeare uses traditional Elizabethan language of the time. The sonnet begins with a rhetorical question, which dismissed, and the thought is expressed in further detail; Shall I compare thee to a summers day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Shakespeare decides that the person is lovelier than a summers day, and explains that the person does not change rapidly, this could be a reflection of the individuals personality; they are tolerant, and fair. These first lines give images of warmth and light, and contrast with the next line; Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summers lease hath all too short a date: The first words give a brutal tone, which soften by the end of the line, when references of spring are brought to it. The darling buds of May express vulnerability, this line also tries to find a fault with the summer. The colon at the end of the fourth line suggests an expansion of the original idea. Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimmd: And every fair from fair some time declined, By chance, or natures changing course untrimmd The first line refers to the sun; this is a very effective metaphor, suggesting that the sun is wrong in shining too hot. The third line implies that when the sunsets the beauty of people will decline with age. This quatrain focus on the effect of age on beauty and the tone is unchanging from the first quatrain. But thy eternal summer shall not fade Nor lose possession of that fair thou owst: Nor shall Death brag thou wandrest in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou growst. Shakespeare uses a counter mount, and uses imagery within this quatrain. Shakespeare is convinced that the person will not loose their beauty, and death is unable to overshadow him, wrinkles will also not affect his beauty. These lines suggest that time, age nor death can change the beauty of the person, conveying that the person is almost beyond human beauty. So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee. These last two lines contain words that are all mono-symbolic; giving a sense of power and simplicity. A factual tone is used, emphasising the length of the two lines, and the slow pace chosen. The tone also inflicts the idea that the statement cannot be contradicted, and the two lines give the sonnet a balance when read. The repetition of the words So long in both lines emphasise the point made; the beauty is always present. Let me not the marriage of true minds is a sonnet about true love which never dies. The sonnet makes some strong links with the church and marriage. There are many images described within the sonnet; Let me not to the marriage of true minds Admit impediments: love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove. The use of the word impediments is mentioned in a marriage service, and the third line describes unfaithfulness within a marriage. Alters encourage links with the church, and therefore encourage images of love, and never-ending love. It is the star to every wandering bark, Whose worth is unknown although his height be taken. These two lines refer to stars and guiding of the lost, this gives images of the North Star guiding people home. In addition, navigators use the stars for guidance, because they are constant. The star is also personified, with the height of it commented upon. Within his bending sickles compass come This line emphasises the sickle, a curved blade, which, in this context, would be associated with death. A strong image of hell is revealed, in contrast to the church images received from the first few lines. But bears it out even to the edge of doom The image of hell is resumed in this line, and the use of the word doomed conveys never-ending, forever. The line also implies that true love will still be love even through the bad times, and that love makes you a stronger person. If this be error and upon me provd, I never writ, nor no man ever lovd. Shakespeare is so confident in true love he expresses it in these last two lines, when he implies that if he is wrong then no man has ever loved. These last lines are hyperbole, exaggerated for effect. The sonnet has a constant factual tone, and uses iambic pentameter, which is used in all Shakespearean sonnets. The themes in the pre-20th century compared to the post 20th century sonnet have not changed dramatically; love is still seen to over-power what people say. Beauty is still an element in love, and when you are in love the person is always beautiful to you. Shakespeare suggests that true love is forever, and Hendry also believes this, as in her sonnet she expresses her love, but knows that it is not true love, as he does not feel the same way about her. The language between the three sonnets have not changed, they have been written so that they can be understood, they language is suitable in the era that they have been written in. The language used by Shakespeare seems incomprehensible to us, because language has changed so much since the Elizabethan times. To conclude I think that the experiences conveyed through the sonnets by pre-20th century writers do not differ from those conveyed by post-20th century poets, but are conveyed in different ways within the sonnets. Diana Hendry writes of her experience in an unusual way, keeping the Shakespearean structure, but changing the mood into a complicating and confusing one. Her poem gives the impression that at the present time people are confused and uncertain of their feelings. Shakespeare writes his poems in his traditional way, declaring his love for the person, doing it in the way which reflects his nature, and also the true meaning of love. He also insinuates that people in the Elizabethan times were more conscious of what love is, and how to express their feelings. This suggests that people were simpler, and less confused with materialistic things, which could influence our decisions.

The whole business depends on this category and one should need to learn how to save more money. A project budget is the total sum of money allocated for the particular purpose of the project for a specific period of time. The goal of budget management is to control project costs within the approved budget and deliver the expected project goals that are why it is so important every person and family create a budget that works for them. Item Projected Real Fixed costs Site hire $6000 $6000 Orator fees $300 $150 Publicity $600 $400 Acoustic visual hire $100 $350 Total $7000 $7700 Variable costs Cookery $500 $400 Present bags $1500 $1200 Accommodate hire $1000 $800 Total $3000 $2400 Fixed income Organisations contribution $5000 $5500 Total $5000 $5500 Variable income Permit sales $2000 $1700 Track material $3000 $400 Total $5000 $2100 Strategies for Budget: Strategies of budgeting is important factor which involves clearly defining the organizations mission and an assessment of its current state and competitive landscape. Strategic planning also requires a well-thought out plan for how to properly allocate time, human capital and financial resources. The different strategies are explained below: Recognized settled cost: The principal thing anybody hoping to make a financial plan ought to do is make a rundown of costs. This incorporates things, for example, voyaging costs, convenience, bills and whatever else that cant be maintained a strategic distance from, alongside superfluous costs like stimulation and eating out. Assess the amount you ordinarily spend on each, and make a note alongside them. When this is finished, investigate the rundown. Approximation Profit: Then we need to gauge our wage. Wage can likewise be altered or variable. Altered pay alludes to salary that does not vary with the quantity of participants, for instance: sponsorship and so on. Variable earnings will vary with the quantity of participants, for instance: ticket deals and so forth. Parts of a Financial Plan: An ace spending plan is the money related report utilized for anticipating the salary and costs of an organization, instead of a division, item, or other territory of a business. From the ace spending plan, a little entrepreneur can build up an assortment of reports to set particular objectives for the business. The real parts of an ace spending plan incorporate wage and costs, overhead and creation costs, and the month to month, yearly, normal, and projection aggregates. Income: One of the two fundamental parts of an ace spending plan is salary. This incorporates your deals, as well as any premium, profits, eminences or other capital increases you win. In the event that you wont utilize these last types of salary to run your organization, abandon them off your lord spending plan, making it a working spending plan concentrated on pay from deals. Some ace spending plans incorporate a terrible obligation section, figuring it utilizing a rate of the business wage. Expenses: The other primary part of an ace spending plan is costs. Some little entrepreneurs make sub-parts of their lord spending costs to figure spending ranges they can cut amid moderate times, or to ascertain generation and overhead expenses. A settled cost is one you cant without much of a stretch change from month to month, for example, your lease, protection premium, advance instalment or copier rent. You will probably have the capacity to cut variable costs in case youre short on money, in light of the fact that a significant number of these are optional. Assign repeating variable costs you cant without much of a stretch cut, for example, utilities, telephone bills or work, uniquely in contrast to variable costs you cant change, so you can rapidly discover spots to cut when the need emerges. To make an adaptable spending plan, utilize recipes that change your optional spending taking into account your pay. Projections: An accommodating part of numerous financial plans is the projection adds up to segment, which demonstrates to you how youll end the year in the event that you keep performing at your present levels of pay and spending. These can be skewed on the off chance that you have substantial cost or pay sums ahead of schedule in the year. Taking a gander at your execution for a specific month ordinarily isnt a practical pointer of your general execution, since you will have more bills come due in a few months. Times of higher bills can incorporate the start of the year when expenses are expected, dates when quarterly protection premiums or duties are expected, or times when you have occasional deals crests and valleys. Averaging your month to month pay and costs can help you anticipate your yearly execution in the event that you dont have occasional swings and your costs are genuinely relentless. Planning Conference:   Itis very important to handle the work. Being a part of busy Conf and helping conference organizers take their event from idea to launch has shown me that this is true. One of the difficult parts of planning a conference is finding resources to help you organize your event that are affordable, or even free. To save you time when searching for resources, we have compiled a list of conference planning resources that can help you find a venue, book speakers, promote your event, and more. Finding a Setting: Finding and booking a scene can be a distressing background, particularly for first-time gathering coordinators. Leasing a scene is frequently the greatest cost included when arranging a gathering. These instruments make finding and booking settings in your general vicinity less complex and less expensive. Event Hardware: Gear rentals are nearly as distressing as finding a setting. Leasing hardware is frequently costly and tedious. On the off chance that your occasion needs complex sound and visual hardware, leasing and setting it up can be troublesome.   These administrations help occasion coordinators find and set up gear. Event Sponsorship: Occasions are costly, and without enough sponsorship cash and a careful spending plan, your arrangements may very well come up short because of an absence of assets. Discovering supporters is something that a great deal of first time coordinators battle with. These assets will help you raise cash for your occasion, discover supports, and make a financial plan. Milestones of Conference: A Milestone is a reference point that marks a major event in a project and is used to monitor the projects progress. The milestones for a project should present a clear sequence of events that will incrementally build up to the completion of the approved project. Expand Proclamation: As we realize that, each individual attempt to enhance his relational abilities. By this he can enhance his identity. Along these lines, the meeting is the most ideal route for each business part to enhance his relational abilities. Moving into Future: If the organization needs to move persistently in future then the gatherings ought to be essential for this on the grounds that by this they can give the more data in market about its items, strategies and methods. Produce Income: Each organization needs to acquire increasingly income. At that point the gathering is likewise the most ideal approach to procure income. Amplify Relations in Market: If the organization needs to build its relations in the market then the gatherings ought to be important in light of the fact that by this each organization can enhance its relations with shareholders, indebted individuals, loan bosses and so forth.

William Butler Yeats’ The Magi Essay -- The Magi Essays

William Butler Yeats’ The Magi   Ã‚  Ã‚   Briefly stated, William Butler Yeats’ The Magi is a poem about people who, upon reaching old age, or perhaps just older age, turn to God and the spiritual world for fulfillment and happiness. We are told in the footnote to this poem that, after writing The Dolls, Yeats looked up into the blue sky and imagined that he could see "stiff figures in procession". Perhaps after imagining these figures, Yeats debated within himself whom these pictures could represent. Yeats then went on to write The Magi, a poem which is full of symbolism, a literary technique that he greatly valued.   Ã‚  Ã‚   In the first two lines of the poem, Yeats writes "Now as at all times I can see in the mind’s eye, / In their stiff, painted clothes, the pale unsatisfied ones". Yeats is saying that when he looks into the blue sky, towards heaven above, he is reminded of all those people who have spent their lives "playing the game". These people have achieved great success and have many wonderful things, such as their "stiff, painted clothes," but still they feel as if their lives are incomplete. Despite everything they own and the pride they feel in what they have accomplished, they are not quite happy with their lives as a whole.   Ã‚  Ã‚   The fourth line of the poem, "With all their ancient faces like rain-beaten stones," clarifies for me that Yeats is talking about people of an older generation. He is certainly not talking about unsatisfied twenty- or even thirtysomethings. Yeats uses simile in this line to describe faces that are well worn. These faces belong to people who have experienced the stresses and strains of life. They are no longer vibrant and distinct, but are instead bland and unremarkable. These are people who ... ...and successful and are turning to God for solace. They are choosing to honor and revere him in the hopes of finding everlasting peace and happiness.   Ã‚  Ã‚   Perhaps Yeats wrote this poem out of frustration with his own life. Maybe he felt that he also was one of the "pale, unsatisfied ones". He may have been struggling with the strains brought upon him by success. He may also have been going through a time of indecision in regards to his own spiritual life. Whatever the reason for his writing The Magi, Yeats wrote a poem rich in symbolism and imagery that many people could then, and can now, relate to on a very personal level.    References Ellmann, Richard and Robert O'Clair, eds. Contrasting Responsibility in Carvers Fever and Baldwins Sonnys B

What allows a human being to constantly face-up to the responsibilities of life? What makes a mother or father continue to clothe, feed, and pick up their child from school? What makes a person wake up every morning to go to a job he or she hates, come home, and begin the whole process the following morning? Is it "responsibility" that makes a person do what they have to do, or rather is it fearing the consequence? Truthfully, this would depend on the situation. Parents would most likely fulfill their responsibility towards their child or children because of love; but a person who hates his or her job probably continues to do it fearing the consequence of unemployment. In the end, one realizes that despite all the responsibilities a person has, the choice to execute it is ultimately left to the individual. Two short stories that examine the theme of responsibility are "Sonny's Blues" by James Baldwin and "Fever" by Raymond Carver. In "Sonny's Blues", the narrator's elderly mother tells him to never allow anything bad to happen to his younger brother, Sonny. Although Sonny's injurious decisions result in both brothers distancing themselves from each other, the older brother finds it within himself to love his brother and do everything he can do to take care of him. In "Fever", the other short story, the narrator's wife, Eileen, abandons her life as a wife and mother of two children to pursue a career as an artist with another man. This sudden abandonment of all maternal responsibilities without reservation characterizes her as a free-flowing "artiste" that pursues her desires without regarding the impact it might have on others. Both of these short stories show how people approach the issue of familial responsibility. An init... ... what we're supposed to get out of this life..." one realizes that she has put her ambitions and desires above her family and paid no heed to her familial responsibility. Abraham Lincoln once said, "You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today" (www.quotationspage.com). Ironically, one actually can. The narrator in "Sonny's Blues" chose to care for Sonny and accept his responsibility as an older brother. On the other hand, Eileen in "Fever" chose a different path by leaving her family and pursuing her own ambitions. Conclusively, one realizes that despite all the responsibilities a person has, the element of choice determines what happens. Works Cited Carver, Raymond. "Fever" The Harper Anthology of Fiction: Ed. Analyzing Notes of a Native Son Essay -- James Baldwin

Analyzing â€Å"Notes of a Native Son† James Baldwin is a highly renowned African-American essay writer who is best known for his ability to interweave narrative and argument into concise well-written essays. He had his first book published at the early age of 19 and has published some astounding literature during the time of civil rights activism. He succeeded himself to rise out of his poverty to become an amazing writer through self-determination and courage. In his essay entitled, â€Å"Notes of a Native Son†, Baldwin does an excellent job making use of binaries and repetition of words and phrases as well as switching back and forth from narrative to analysis. He also cleverly connects his progressively raising maturity and understanding of the world to the unique style in which Baldwin writes throughout his work. We will now dissect this essay and see how Baldwin uses special writing techniques to make for a very powerful and meaningful composition. The essay starts strongly with Baldwin providing insightful narrative in order to set the stage of his writing. By the second page of his essay, Baldwin has already developed his first binary. He emphasizes the black/white relationship. He continually refers to the â€Å"blackness† of his father and how his father was a proud, beautiful and powerful black man in his day (Baldwin 64). He then tells of his discovery of how â€Å"white people† helped to kill his father (65). Soon after, Baldwin addresses another binary, this one being life and death. His mother realizes that it was James’ father who â€Å"kept the family alive† (66). All the while, Baldwin’s father is slowly dying. Another example of the life/death binary occurs when Baldwin acknowledges that his â€Å"father had spent too much of his ener... ...ather really is as a person and is ready to express his inner feelings to his father. At the end of the essay, a strong message is conveyed. Baldwin learns that love, which is synonymous to his constant use of the word hatred, must prevail and that with love, acceptance and equal power can finally be attained (84). He also says that bitterness is pointless and that life and death are far more important and significant than the black/white power struggle. The end of the essay closes gracefully because Baldwin has now revealed the use of his writing techniques of â€Å"Notes of the Native Son† and he has also fully matured and is now able to see his father in a positive light for the very first time in his life. Finance trades with affairs related to money and the markets. SOURES OF FINANCE AVAILABLE TO BUSINESSHire Purchase- this is a sort of episode recognition, which is similar to renting the lone exclusion is that the possesstion of the good base on ballss to the hire purchase client to the concluding recognition episode, whereas a rental ne'er becomes a owner of.Renting – this is a method of obtaining the usage of assets of the concern without utilizingBank Lending-Government assistances-Retained Earnings- the sum of gaining retained within the concern has a directOrdinary/ Equity shares- this is interchanging a part of the ownership of the concern for a fiscal investing in the concern. The ownership interest, ensuing from an equity investing allows the investors to portion in the company’s net incomes.Analysis 1.2 ASSESS THE IMPLICATIONA OF THE DIFFERENT SOURCES OF FINANCE Beginnings of finance can either be long term or short term. Long term beginnings of finance can be paid back over many old ages while short term beginnings of finance must be paid back in one twelvemonth clip. Beginnings OF FINANCE THAT COVERS SHORT TERM:An overdraft facility- this is where Bankss allow houses to take more money that it has in its bank history.Trade credit- this is where providers deliver the goods now and are willing to wait for a period of clip before payment.Factoring- this is where houses sell their measures to a factor like Bankss, they pattern this in order to acquire money immediately alternatively of waiting 28 yearss to be paid the full sum..Beginnings OF FINANCE THAT COVERS LONG TERM:Owners who invest money in their concern for sole bargainers and spouse this can be their nest eggs. Bank Loans- bank loans can be a existent good beginning as I may be able to guarantee the personal loan or line of acknowledgment ; these loans are available to finance the purchase of stock list and equipment every bit easy as to keep runing good as to obtain operating capital and financess for concern enlargement. These loans are clip honored and a really reliable method of financing a little patronage, finance houses with important collateral and a long class record, and the footings they offer are frequently really stiff. DisadvantageThese loans are difficult to predominate unless little concern receives a substantial path record or valuable collateral like existent land.Monetary value of bank loans- involvement rates for little concern loans from my boxes can be really high and the sum of bank support for which the concern qualifies is frequently non sufficient to wholly carry through the demand.AdvantageBanks will merely loan money to a commercial endeavor based on the value of the occupation and its perceiving abilities to function the loan by doing payments on clip or in full.Banks do non take ownership in your concern or acquire involved in any facets of running the concern to which it grants loan.Recommendation Finance is required to advance or make occupations, addition assets, green goods merchandises, run market studies every bit good as to promote.Establishment thought fundss on being antiphonal, efficient, and quantitative and risk averse. So the finance section is the bosom of the whole operation of a concern and that’s why this section is so of import and important. Finance is needed throughout the life of every company, it is needed to get down a concern and incline it up to profitableness, the type and sum of finance required for a concern depend on factors such as the type of concern, the sum of money that will be needed and the clip span in which it will be needed, the success of the house and the province of the economic system. The fiscal demands of a concern will change harmonizing to the type and size of the concern. In the early phase of any concern one is improbable to hold all the capital it needs to acquire started, and so will hold a list of thoughts and options for funding. Since bank loans are the most traditional manner of funding concerns it is the method that most concern proprietors use in order to finance their concern, hence it has advantages and disadvantages like any other beginnings of finance so one should carefully see if it is the best option for the type of concern before doing a concluding determination. There are two major beginnings of finance for any concern and these include the internal and external beginnings of finance. The proprietor of the concern is the 1 who chooses the best signifier of finance to be used by the concern, the concern can merely come on if the right beginning of finance is being used. There are three major types of support options that are available to little concerns and these are debt funding, equity funding and grants. Debt funding is the handiness of recognition or loans to little concerns that has a good recognition repute, nevertheless the cost of borrowing money is compared with the cost of equity funding for cost benefit analysis. Equity funding is the exchange of a part of the ownership of the concern of fiscal investings in the concern. Decision One of the primary ends of get downing up a concern is for doing money. Finance is the life blood of any concern, for every concern there is a great importance of finance. Finance is the most of import thing to run any concern as it helps it to turn, develop and spread out ; there are many beginnings of finance available to concerns. The categorization of beginnings of finance is dependent on assorted factors and these beginnings of finance can be classified as internal, external, debt, equity or short term and long term. . So the finance section is the bosom of the whole operation of a concern and that’s why this section is so of import and important. There are assorted countries that the finance section covers which play an every bit as good function as any other in the company. One of these is â€Å"Budgeting and Forecasting and this is the relation of your concern and the external community. Driven by net incomes and development estimations, stock monetary values rely on timely informations prediction to accomplish optimum cost and market capitalisation. Another country that the finance section covers is the payables and receivables, this where the all hard currency flow into and out of the concern are managed. Sellers and creditors need payment right and on clip to maintain things running smoothly† . ( Griffin, n.d. ) . In the business, it is best to stay liquid, possessing the right measure of difficult currency on manus and at all times must keep payment programs tat keep back every thing on path as this is best. Small concern net income from this cognition even though non publically sold. Possessing cognition of natu ral stuff demands, staff office and staffing demand and enlargement demands force enterprisers to thoughtfully look at their demands. With the fiscal section being the nucleus of the organisation it needs to be managed decently so as to harvest better consequences. REFRENCESDana Griffin, n.d.The Role of Finance in a Business. How Does the Story Encourage the Reader to Admire Scheherazade? Essay

The author in the story uses many linguistic devices such as metaphor, superlatives, similes and strong adjectives to encourage the reader to admire Scheherazade. The author uses superlatives to set up the story such as he describes Scheherazade’s beauty â€Å"Excelled that of any girl in the Kingdom of Persia. This gives the story a background of extreme power and amazing people; an exotic world with a powerful romantic appeal. Scheherazade’s character has described well in a sentence. Her description has been given in such a way that the readers are made to admire Scheherazade, like â€Å"her sister was clever and courageous in the highest degree†. This also gives the readers hope that she could be the one to stop the Sultan’s â€Å"barbarous practice†. Her beauty has been said to have â€Å"Excelled that of any girl in the Kingdom of Persia† which makes the readers think that she was the most sought woman in Persia. The author proves Scheherazade intelligence and cleverness to the readers when Scheherazade married the Sultan as she was determined to stop the â€Å"barbarous practice†. She tricked the Sultan by telling fascinating stories and letting the Sultan postpone the execution to continue Scheherazade’s fascinating story. Depth Scales

16. 7 Depth Scales * Explain what is meant by a â€Å"hypnotic depth scale. † * Give examples and explain the issues relating to the use of depth scales When discussing the topic of hypnotic depth they are referring to how ‘deep’ the subject is/can go into hypnosis and what is possible at that perceived level of depth. If you do the research you will find lots of different scales of depth, here I have taken the scale from the coursework provided by Adam Eason School of Therapeutic Hypnosis which upon research appears to originally come from Harry Arons, 1961 1. Hypnoidal – heavy muscle and relaxed nerves – drowsiness – awareness (got out of bed feeling). 2. Light hypnosis – physical response to suggestions – mind focused on suggestions – reacts to arm, etc. rigidity. 3. Medium Hypnosis – deeply relaxed – subject will not speak unless asked – unable to perform actions unless asked to do move arm – rise from chair – move head. 4. Profound Hypnosis (deep hypnosis) – partial amnesia when awakened – posthypnotic suggestions can be submitted – numbing parts of the body (ANALGESIA). 5. Somnambulism – total amnesia and anaesthesia is possible – age regression is possible – positive hallucinations possible. . Profound Somnambulism – removal of programmed information – posthypnotic suggestions – most all suggestions are carried out without questions. Often referred to as a coma state! Difficult to get out of this state – may need to bribe unconscious mind (you will not be allowed o experience this again unless†¦) Now, in 1961, the above scale may have seemed perfectly accurate and as time passes, more and more discoveries are being made about hypnosis and one of those discoveries is that some, if not all of the intended suggestions can easily be obtained at a lower level of depth or lighter trance as is suggested. For instance, amnesia and ideomotor suggestions can take place within light hypnosis and I also know this personally from experiencing this myself from both being a subject and a facilitator of hypnosis. There have also been many scales of susceptibility created to test suggestibility within the ‘depth’ of hypnosis or trance that the subject is in. One particularly scale is the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale created in 1938 which created 3 forms, A, B and C on which consisted of varying levels of tests to be given to the subject. The below list is the example of form A 1 Postural Sway 2 Eye Closure 3 Hand Lowering (left) Immobilisation (right arm) 5 Finger Lock 6 Arm Rigidity (left arm) 7 Hands Moving Together 8 Verbal Inhibition (name) 9 Hallucination (fly) 10 Eye Catalepsy 11 Post-hypnotic (changes chairs) 12 Amnesia There are many more of these scales available for research but I have shown the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale as a prime example of what they consist of. A big issue with the depth scale is does really exist? Are there really levels of hypnosis? I cannot prove it either way, but in therapy, do we need to, If the client believes through our suggestion that they are going deeper, then isn’t real to them.
